New Delhi, 3/6(Ao Bureau): Serum Institute of India (SII), the manufacturer of the Covishield vaccine, has also demanded exemption from the liability of compensation from the government. Serum sources said on Thursday, ‘Not only Serum Institute of India (SII) but if foreign companies are allowed this, then all vaccine companies should be exempted on the issue of damages.
Health ministry sources indicated on Wednesday that the government may also relax the issue of damages to Pfizer and Moderna to speed up approvals for vaccines in India. Earlier on Wednesday, India’s top drug regulator has relaxed the requirement of testing anti-Covid-19 vaccines manufactured abroad by the Central Drugs Laboratory, Kasauli, and bridging trials for such companies after they start using the vaccines. The availability of vaccines will increase. This decision of the Drug Controller General of India has come in the backdrop of demand from companies like Pfizer and Cipla. He had made this demand during negotiations for the supply of imported vaccines to India.
