Byas Barik murder case: Seven accused arrested with deadly weapon

Subarnapur ,11/2– Police have cracked a murder case that took place four months ago near Narayanprasad-Bargaon road under Ghantapada police station in Boudh district. They have arrested seven accused and seized two country-made pistols, 16 live bullets, a blood-stained steel rod, a blood-stained handgun and a turban from the accused. A case has been registered under the Murder and Unlawful Killing Weapons Prohibition Act and all the accused have been tried in court, Ghantapada police said in a press release. According to information, on 08.10.2024 at around 7 PM , some unknown miscreants killed Byas Barik(25), the only son of Kushaleshwar Barik of Nuamunda village of Ghantapada police station was brutally killed with a gun and a sharp weapon and thrown into a field near the Patarphadi near the Narayanprasad-Bargaon road. Based on the complaint, the deceased’s grandfather son Dibya Barik (31) of Siletpada village filed a complaint at the Ghantapada police station. Based on the complaint, the Ghantapada police station officer Narasingh Mohapatra, under the direct supervision of the Boudh S. P. started an investigation into the incident and on 11.10.2024, Kirati Bagh alias Dinesh (25) of Narayanprasad village was arrested and tried in court. A case was registered under Case No. 129/24 to arrest the other accused involved in the incident. The investigation process was cleverly intensified and finally achieved great success. Last Sunday, 09. 02. On 2025, on receiving information that the accused were planning to flee the state, Ghantapada Police Station Dedhenmal Tribal Area,( Club house ),Ghantapada Police Station Officer Narasingh Mohapatra, along with a police team, conducted a raid and arrested 7 accused. The accused are Jitendra Mahakud (28) of Mandir Sahi of Ghantapada Police Station Narayan Prasad, Bikas Sandha (28) of Rathapada village, Rajesh Bagh alias Gunthi (20) of Jagannath Mandir Sahi, Sridhar Sahu (21) of Sankholi,Sesha Pradhan (24) of Talasahi village, Ratan Pradhan alias Halu (21) of Jantipadar village under Tusura police station in Balangir district. Currently, the residence of Ghantapada Police Station Narayanprasad is Talisahi village and Lituna Biswal alias Mangalpur village under Pipili police station in Puri district. The police have informed that Raja (31) has been killed. The accused confessed in their statements during the police investigation that they had planned to kill Narayan Prasad Byas Barik over a dispute between them over the marijuana( Ganja )business. The accused recovered 2 country-made pistols, a bloody steel pipe, a stun gun, 16 live bullets and a bullet casing used in the murder and all the accused were tried in court. The police informed the media through a press release that the other accused in the incident would be arrested soon. Meanwhile, the assailant Dibya Barik, in response to the media, has appealed to the police to arrest all the other accused soon. Report – Ugrasen Karmi.
