Patnagarh parcel bomb explosion main accused Punjilal Meher’s statement to be recorded today

Patnagarh: In the much talked about Patnagarh parcel bomb incident, the statement of the main accused of the case, Punjilal Meher will be recorded today. As per reports, Police brought Punjilal Patnagarh from Balangi jail today. He will present his case in the ADJ court in Patnagarh. The accused statement is to be recorded today. Punjilal had sought adjournment on the previous date citing illness. As a result, Punjilal’s statement could not be recorded. It is to be noted that on February 23, 2018, newlywed Soumya Shekhar and his wife Rima were opening a gift parcel when it exploded. Accordingly, Soumya Shekhar’s grandmother died on the spot. Soumya Shekhar and his newly wed wife sustained critical injury and admitted to Balangir district headquarter hospital. During treatment Soumyasekhar died. Rima was later shifted to the SCB Medical College in Cuttack in a critical condition. She recovered after long days. The incident was first investigated by Patnagarh police and later by the Crime Branch. The main accused of the incident, Punjilal Meher, was arrested by the Crime Branch on April 25, 2018.
