Kolkata: A new Corona variant HKU-1 has been detected in Kolkata and has raised several concerns among people and doctors. It is feared that the spread might affect a larger population. According to reports, amid growing concerns over the coronavirus the new variant of the virus HKU-1, has been identified in Kolkata. In view of this, the fear of Covid has once again spread in the city of Kolkata. A 49-year-old woman from Garia in Kolkata has been admitted to a private hospital in South Kolkata due to persistent fever for 15 consecutive days. Investigation has revealed that she was infected with the coronavirus HKU-1 virus, which is comparatively less serious but still a variant of concern. After the emergence of the new variant, health experts have urged caution and emphasized on being vigilant to prevent its spread. The patient is being treated at a private Hospital in Kolkata. A doctor attending the patient said that first secondary pneumonia was detected. She had high fever for the last 15 days and had no travel history. It is not related to SARS-CoV-2, but is another strain of coronavirus, HKU-1, the doctor added. The doctor further threw light on the treatment and said that the lady has been administered a heavy dose of antibiotics and is stable and recovering. He was hopefully that she would be discharged soon.
