Tokyo, 30/8:Indian javelin thrower Sumit Antil created history on Monday by winning the gold medal at the Tokyo Paralympics. He won the gold medal while setting a world record. Playing in the Paralympic Games for the first time, Sumit threw a world record of 68.08 meters in his second attempt of the F-64 event of javelin throw. He then improved it further in his fifth attempt and set a world record with a throw of 68.55m.
Sumit threw the javelin in his first attempt from a distance of 66.95 meters, which is also a record. He did it better in the second attempt and threw 68.08 meters. Then in the third attempt 65.27, in the fourth attempt 66.71 and in the fifth attempt Sumit threw 68.55 meters.
Australia’s Michael Barian won the silver medal with a throw of 66.29m. Sri Lanka’s Dulan Kodithuvakku won the bronze with a throw of 65.61m. In the F-44 class of the same event, India’s Sandeep finished fourth, throwing his best of the season with a throw of 62.20 meters.
