Dhamra, 25.09.2025: The 63-km railway line of Dhamra Port in Bhadrak district serves as a lifeline for trade, carrying over 20 freight trains of Indian Railways daily. Linked to the Chennai–Howrah main line, this route connects Dhamra Port to Bhadrak and traverses more than 70 villages. Recognising the importance of safety, Dhamra Port has deployed a dedicated security team to safeguard both the freight operations and the surrounding communities. Beyond protecting cargo and infrastructure, these personnel have emerged as real-life saviours. With many villagers regularly crossing the tracks, instances of people attempting self-harm due to mental, financial or family distress have been reported. In response, the security staffs maintain round-the-clock surveillance.
Their swift action has already saved at least three lives in the last two months alone — in Chhatrapada, Hatgadia and Kirapur villages. The port’s efforts go beyond immediate rescue. Those saved are also provided psychological support and counselling, helping them to recover and reintegrate. This proactive approach has earned widespread appreciation from the local community and authorities alike.
