Baphlimali Observes Mines Safety Week 2025

Rayagada, 26/11: Utkal Alumina International Ltd (UAIL), a subsidiary of Hindalco
Industries under the Aditya Birla Group, has observed the 43rd Odisha Mines Safety
Week – 2025. As per the directives of the Directorate General Mines Safety (DGMS)
Bhubaneshwar Region, a week-long series of activities was conducted at the
Baphlimali Mines.
A four-member Team constituted by the DGMS visited Baphlimali Mines to review
the safety standards and ensure compliance with statutory norms. The team was led
by Mr. Nabin Kumar Singh, with members Mr. Mohan Reddy, Mr. Sachindra Panda,
and Mr. Saithala Appalaraju. After an extensive field inspection, the delegation
expressed their satisfaction with the safety measures in place.
To mark the occasion, a special programme was organised at the Township Club
House in Nuapada. The event was attended by UAIL Unit Head, Mr. Rabi Narayan
Mishra; Hindalco Industries Mines Safety Head, Mr. Ajay Thakur; Baphlimali Mines
Head, Mr. Vijay Chauhan; and Safety Head, Mr. Vishwajeet Jowardar, among others.
Addressing the gathering, Unit Head Mr. Mishra stated that Baphlimali Mines
adheres to advanced and stringent safety standards. He emphasized that strict
monitoring of safety practices for all employees is a priority and assured that such
measures will continue with equal focus in the coming days. He also expressed his
appreciation for the active participation of employees and their families in the Safety
Week activities.
Speaking on the importance of safety, Hindalco’s Head of Mines Safety, Mr. Ajay
Thakur, highlighted that an individual learns the fundamentals of safety from their
mother from the moment they are born, and this awareness remains essential
throughout life. He stressed the need for strict adherence to safety protocols at the
workplace as well.
The visiting delegation and safety leaders, including Mr. Vishwajeet Jowardar,
encouraged everyone to incorporate safe practices into their daily routine and make
safety an integral part of their lifestyle.
Throughout the week, UAIL organised poster, slogan and essay competitions for
employees, family members, and students of Aditya Birla Public School. A display of
modern safety equipment and machinery used at Baphlimali Mines was also
arranged.
Additionally, as part of the Mines CSR initiatives, various products and materials
developed under community development programmes in the surrounding villages
were showcased during the event.
