Local Business Directory As per reports, the house belonged to local businessman Abakash Das, a resident of Chunipada area under Kutra police limits. The family members were away when the incident took place. Abakash had reportedly gone to his in-laws’ house in Burla for some work, while his younger brother Ramesh Das had travelled to Rajgangpur. Taking advantage of the empty house, the burglars allegedly entered the premises by jumping over the rear boundary wall and breaking the main lock. They then broke open almirahs in three rooms and decamped with around Rs 7 to 8 lakh in cash along with nearly 10 tolas of gold ornaments. The theft came to light at around 8 pm when Ramesh returned home and found the house ransacked. He immediately informed Kutra police. On receiving information, police reached the spot and started an investigation into the incident. A scientific team is likely to examine the scene for clues, while efforts are underway to trace the culprits. The daring burglary has triggered panic among residents of the Chunipada locality, with locals demanding increased night patrolling and stronger security measures in the area. Police said further investigation is in progress.
