Jeypore (Koraput): The Special POCSO Court in Jeypore on Tuesday awarded 20 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) to a man for abducting and raping a minor girl on the false promise of marriage in the Pottangi police station area of Koraput district in 2024.After examining the testimony of 12 witnesses, the Additional District and Sessions Judge-cum-POCSO Court convicted Gopal Pangi of Majhiput village under Semiliguda police station and sentenced him to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment. The court, presided over by Dr. Sanghamitra Dash, also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on the convict. In default of payment of the fine, he will have to undergo an additional 15 months of rigorous imprisonment.The court further directed that Rs 4,00,000 from the fine amount be provided as compensation to the victim through the District Legal Services Authority on behalf of the government.
