Bhubaneswar, May 20: A shocking case of mob lynching has come to light in Odisha’s Cuttack district, where a man was killed on suspicion of practicing black magic, and his body was burned to destroy evidence. Police have arrested 25 people in connection with the incident.The attack occurred on May 10, but arrests were made only on Tuesday, a day after the victim’s father filed a formal complaint. Sweta Behera stated that his son, Tikima Behera, was dragged out of his house in Talamunduli village and beaten to death by a mob. The body was then set on fire, allegedly to erase evidence of the crime.According to the complaint, Tikima Behera had been living with his brother and sister-in-law in the village after his wife left him seven years ago.“So far, 25 men from the village have been arrested for allegedly killing Tikima Behera on suspicion of practicing black magic. Three police teams have been formed to investigate the case. One of the accused has confessed during interrogation,” Cuttack (Rural) SP Vinit Agrawal told reporters.Police have also recovered the partially burnt body and bones of the deceased, which are being examined as part of the ongoing investigation.
