Puri Police Arrest Six Snatchers, Recover Stolen Cash, Mobiles Phones

Puri: Puri Police have arrested six snatchers, including four members of inter-state gangs, and recovered stolen cash, mobile phones and bags in a series of swift operations as part of enhanced security arrangements for Rath Yatra-2026.

 

Police said the Anti-Snatching Team detected two cases registered at Seabeach Police Station on July 12 and arrested four accused in connection with the incidents. The arrested include two persons from Jharkhand and two from West Bengal. During the investigation, police recovered and seized seven mobile phones and a stolen bag.In another breakthrough, the Anti-Snatching Team detected Seabeach Police Station Case No. 225/2026 on July 11 and arrested two accused hailing from Jajpur district. Police recovered Rs 30,000 in cash, two mobile phones and a stolen vanity bag from their possession.According to police, the prompt detection of the cases reflects the effectiveness of the Anti-Snatching Team in tracking and apprehending members of inter-state snatching gangs targeting devotees and tourists during the annual Rath Yatra.Puri Police said it has intensified surveillance and intelligence-led policing to prevent crimes during the festival and will continue its sustained action against criminal elements to ensure the safety of pilgrims and visitors.Police have also appealed to devotees and tourists to remain vigilant, keep their valuables secure and immediately report any suspicious activity to the nearest police personnel or by dialing the emergency helpline number 112.
