Bargarh: A doctor on duty at the Bargarh Community health Centre (CHC) sustained serious head injuries after he was allegedly attacked by a patient on Monday, triggering concern over the safety of healthcare professionals.The injured doctor, Dr. Sudipt Rout, was reportedly examining patients when the accused, identified as Vicky Singh, a resident of Ward No. 14, Bargarh town, arrived at the health centre for treatment. According to preliminary reports, an intoxicated youth allegedly became aggressive during a routine blood pressure (BP) check and suddenly assaulted the doctor.In a shocking turn of events, the accused allegedly picked up a stool and hurled it at Dr. Rout, striking him on the head. The doctor sustained severe head injuries and was immediately provided medical treatment.The entire incident was captured on the hospital’s CCTV cameras, and the footage is expected to play a crucial role in the police investigation.Following the attack, personnel from the Bargarh Town Police Station reached the spot and detained the accused for questioning. Police said further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact sequence of events and the circumstances leading to the assault.The incident has sparked outrage among the medical fraternity, with doctors expressing concern over the increasing incidents of violence against healthcare workers and demanding strict action against the accused.
