Allegations of death of youth after consuming filariasis medicine: Road blockade in protest

SUBARNAPUR-14/8:Alleging that a youth named Amit Rana (23) of Bikalpali village under Uphula Gram Panchayat of Birmaharajpur police station in Subarnapur district died after consuming filariasis medicine, his family and villagers have blocked the road at Kanpur Chhak on the Sonepur-Birmaharajpur main road. As a result, traffic is disrupted and hundreds of vehicles are seen parked on both sides of the road. Till the time of writing, the road blockade has not been removed even after the administration’s understanding. It is reported that while the filariasis prevention week is currently underway, the hospital, on the instructions of the administration, has gone to villages, houses and homes to make everyone aware of taking filariasis medicine and requested them to take the medicine. But according to the complaint of the deceased Amit’s elder brother Mahendra, Amit had side effects after being forcibly given medicine. After 12-13 hours, the family first took Amit to the Birmaharajpur Sub-divisional Hospital for treatment, but as his condition worsened, he was shifted to the Subarnapur district head quarters hospital. However, his condition did not improve there either, so he was shifted to Burla Hospital. He died today. After the body reached the village, the villagers and family blocked the road, alleging that the filarial medicine was the cause of death. Birmaharajpur Tehsildar Suchismita Panigrahi, Additional Tehsildar Swagat Kumar Panda, SDPO Hemant Rao,Birmaharajpur Police Station Officer Sarangadhar Panigrahi along with the police force reached the spot. Later, Birmaharajpur MLA Er. Raghunath Jagdala, Block Vice Chairman Narayan Luha reached the spot and tried to negotiate with the people, but the family members did not move away from blocking the road demanding compensation for the losses.
