Bhubaneswar, April 9, 2025 — Strengthening its legacy of sporting excellence, KIIT – Deemed to be University has once again demonstrated its unwavering commitment to nurturing young talent. In a proud moment for both the institution and the state of Odisha, KIIT student Mr. Abhinash Mohanty has been selected to represent the Indian University Men’s Badminton Team at the prestigious FISU World University Games 2025, scheduled to be held in Rhine-Ruhr, Germany, from July 16 to 27, 2025.

Mr. Abhinash Mohanty has earned his place in the Indian University Badminton Men’s Team for the Games. His selection is a testament to KIIT’s holistic and world-class approach to grooming student-athletes for international success.

The selection trials, entrusted to KIIT by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), are being hosted at KIIT from April 19 to 21, drawing more than 210 participants and officials, including top-tier national and international athletes from universities across India. The trials witnessed 76 participants in the women’s and 120 in the men’s division, making it one of the most competitive and prestigious platforms for university-level sports in the country. Mr. Lakshya Sen, an Olympian who wasn’t part of these trials, will be a member of the Indian University Badminton Team and the flag bearer for the Indian contingent at the FISU World University Games 2025.

KIIT’s role as a national hub for talent identification doesn’t end here. Earlier in March, it successfully hosted the Archery Selection Trials, where one of its own students was selected for the India University Archery Team. Continuing its efforts, the university also conducted Tennis and Volleyball Selection Trials from April 9 to 11, resulting in two students being selected for the Indian University Lawn Tennis Men’s Team, and two more for the Indian University Women’s Volleyball Team.

Later this month, KIIT will again open its doors for Athletics and Table Tennis Selection Trials, reinforcing its position as a national powerhouse for sports promotion in higher education.

In preparation for the FISU Games, a one-month intensive coaching camp will be organized at KIIT for all selected athletes, ensuring they receive the best training, mentorship, and resources to excel on the global stage.

Prof. Achyuta Samanta, Hon’ble Founder of KIIT & KISS, expressed his immense pride and joy over the selections, stating:

“These achievements reflect KIIT’s deep-rooted commitment to empowering youth through sports and education. Our students’ success at the international level is not just a personal milestone but a symbol of India’s rising strength in university sports. I extend my heartfelt congratulations to all selected athletes and wish them the very best at the World University Games.”

All the selected students conveyed their sincere gratitude to Prof. Samanta, crediting his visionary leadership and tireless support as the driving force behind their journey. They acknowledged that it is through his dedication to the integrated development of education and sports that they are able to dream big and achieve at the highest level.
