Angul Railway Station Undergoes Major Transformation Under Amrit Station Scheme

The Amrit Station Scheme is a flagship initiative by the Indian Railways aimed at transforming railway stations across the country into modern, passenger-friendly, and future-ready transit hubs. The scheme focuses on holistic development that includes upgraded infrastructure, better amenities, multi-modal integration, sustainability, and inclusion of local art, heritage, and culture. It also emphasizes accessibility features for Divyangjan (differently-abled) passengers, ensuring inclusive and convenient travel experiences.

The redevelopment of Angul Railway Station under the Amrit Station Scheme is progressing steadily, with the project achieving 52% physical progress and 43% financial progress out of a sanctioned cost of ₹25.41 crore.

The soft upgradation of the station is scheduled for completion by December 2025 and the 12-meter wide FOB is expected to be completed by March 2026.

Key ongoing works include:

  • Station building facade improvement, where structural work is completed, plastering is ongoing, and colouring and electrical work will follow.

  • Circulating area development, with tensile fabrication completed and work underway on earthwork, PCC, and drainage.

  • Platform shelters, where 29 out of 35 bays have been completed. The remaining 6 are in progress along with fabrication of the cantilever structures connected to the FOB.

  • Platform surfacing, including brick drainage work, coping block installation, and tile laying on platforms 2 and 3. Water booth installation is ongoing, and tap points are yet to be installed.

  • FOB construction, with foundation, staircase, column erection and deck fabrication progressing steadily.

  • Provision for four lifts to improve accessibility.

  • Additional work includes renovation of waiting halls and toiletsdevelopment of a second station entry, and integration of local art and cultural elements.

The station is being developed as a Divyangjan-friendly facility, with Phase-I works including ramps, coach position displays, low-height ticket and help booths, Divyang toilets and water booths, dedicated parking and lifts integrated into the FOB. Upcoming works include elevators, tactile pathways, Braille signage, accessible flooring and wheelchair availability.

Other passenger amenities will include public announcement systems, digital signage, improved illumination, and facilities such as charging points, CCTV cameras, ATVMs, dustbins, water coolers, train indication boards, tourist facilitation counters, OSOP stalls, and fire-fighting equipment.

This redevelopment under the Amrit Station Scheme aims to transform Angul Station into a modern, inclusive and culturally vibrant railway hub, supporting enhanced travel experience for all categories of passengers.
