Bhubaneswar: The Cyber Police of the Commissionerate Police arrested a youth on charges of circulating girl’s morphed obscene photos, blackmailing her and demanding Rs 10 lakh from her. The arrested youth has been identified as Sumit Kumar Das. As alleged by the girl, she had a four-years’ relationship with him. However, she got separated from him after he allegedly harassed and tortured her and her family members. Irate over the girl’s decision to get separated from her, Sumit allegedly morphed her obscene photographs and used them to blackmail her and demanded Rs 10 lakh from her. Later, he circulated those doctored images on different social media platforms. Soon after learning that Sumit had circulated her obscene photographs on social media, the girl lodged a complaint at the Cyber Police Station on April 10 and demanded action against him. Informing about the incident, Bhubaneswar DCP Jagmohan Meena said, “A complaint of extortion of money and making obscene images and videos viral on different social media platforms was lodged. Based on this, a probe was initiated immediately and the accused named Sumit Kumar Das was arrested from Bhadrak.” “This case was registered on April 10, 2025 as the accused was making the edited photos of the girl viral on social media and demanding money from the girl. Steps are being taken to block the social media accounts the accused use to share the girl’s morphed photos,” he added.
