Coal-laden train catches fire in Odisha

Chhatrapur: A goods train reportedly carrying coals caught fire at Chhatrapur railway station in Odisha’s Ganjam district on Sunday prompting the firefighters to reach the spot to douse the flames.

As informed by sources, the goods train was reportedly carrying coal to Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh from Odisha’s Khurda. However, some railway employees noticed smoke emitting from one of the wagons of the freight train when it had reached platform no-3 of the Chhatrapur Railway station.

Soon, the train was stopped and the concerned officials were informed about the minor fire, who in return called the Chhatrapur firefighters after conducting an inspection.

Without any delay, the firefighters along with a fire brigade reached the Chhatrapur Railway station to douse the flame after taking all precautionary measures.

The timely intervention of the firefighters undoubtedly averted a major mishap as the fire could not accelerated and spread to other wagons.

After the minor fire was brought under control, the coal-laden train resumed its journey towards its destination, said sources.
