A police constable was found dead under suspicious circumstances at the nayagarh Reserve Police campus on Thursday, triggering shock among fellow personnel and raising questions over the circumstances leading to his death. The body was recovered from the roof of the Reserve Police barracks during the early hours of the morning. The deceased has been identified as Sunil Sethi, a 2023-batch police constable. He was a resident of Beruabari village under Odagaon police station in Nayagarh district. Initial findings indicate that he used his service revolver to end his life.Police sources said Sunil was last seen by staff members at the barracks early in the morning before his body was discovered on the roof. The exact sequence of events leading to his death is yet to be established, and authorities have launched a detailed investigation. Senior officials, including Nayagarh superintendent of police S. Sushree and District Collector Madhumita Rath, rushed to the spot and reviewed the situation. An inquiry has been initiated to ascertain all circumstances surrounding the incident. The cause of death remains unclear. However, family members have alleged that constable Sunil was subjected to harassment. His mother has claimed that her son was mentally tortured and murdered. Stating that Sunil had no personal problems, she questioned why he would take such an extreme step and alleged that he had been killed.The family also pointed out that Sunil had recently got engaged last month, adding to their disbelief over the incident.The cause of death is being verified through further investigation and post-mortem examination.
