The restriction comes after the owner of the Surya Mandir Jatra party approached the court, alleging that Tripathy violated the terms of his contract, which was valid until June 2026. Despite the mutual contract still in force, Tripathy allegedly performed for another troupe, Singhabahini, in the play ‘Tu Mo Bajrangi’ on the 5th of this month.

Challenging this move, the Surya Mandir Jatra owner argued that the actor had attempted to shift to a rival party before the completion of his contractual tenure. The dispute had earlier escalated within the Jatra fraternity, prompting the Jatra Owners’ Association to impose a one-year break on Tripathy.

However, the popular actor allegedly resumed stage performances without observing the imposed rest period, leading to legal action.

Reacting to the court order, Piyush Tripathy stated that he has not yet received any official notice from the court. He said he would consult his lawyer once the notice is served and added that he would continue performing until formally notified.

The matter is now pending further hearing, with the court’s interim order adding a new twist to the ongoing controversy in Odisha’s Jatra circle.

“I have not yet received any notice. After physically receiving the hard copy, I will discuss it with my lawyer in this regard. When everyone in the country has respect and faith in the judiciary, how can I be different? Things will now occur within the ambit of law. Whatever is lawful, will take place,” actor Piyush said
