Cuttack: Minister of Sports & Youth services, Suryavanshi Suraj cleared the air and said that there is no proposal of the government for the renovation of Barabati Cricket Stadium. Cuttack MLA Sofia Firdous raised a question in the Assembly in order to enquire about the government’s plan to renovate the historic stadium in Cuttack. The MLA in a written question asked,” Will the Minister for Sports & Youth Services be pleased to state that: considering Barabati Stadium’s historic importance and over whelming public response during the last International Match, will the government plan a comprehensive renovation, what steps are being taken to upgrade its infrastructure for regular matches and player facilities when will the government finalize and implement renovation plans for the stadium?” Responding to the answer of the Cuttack MLA, the Minister answered,” Barabati Cricket Stadium is being managed by Odisha Cricket Association (OCA), Cuttack. As of now, there is no such proposal in Government for renovation of Barabati Cricket Stadium, Cuttack.” The Odisha Assembly reconvened today for the second phase of the Budget session. The Opposition party members protested the disrespect meted out to Biju Patnaik. The Opposition BJD MLAs stormed to the well of the House and subsequently the House was adjourned till 4 pm.
