Tragically, a salesman was reportedly charred to death in the incident. According to reports, there is a five-storey warehouse in the back side of Tarini Bastralaya near Kalpana Chhack in Bhubaneswar. The alarm was raised around 10:30 pm when locals spotted smoke coming out from the skylight of the warehouse and promptly informed the fire brigade. The employees sleeping in the Bastralaya showroom were also alerted. Eight to ten employees of the cloth store quickly reached the warehouse, broke the lock, and entered the premises. However, by then, the fire had already spread to the first and second floors. Meanwhile, five fire engines from the fire stations near Kalpana Square and the Secretariat arrived at the scene and began extinguishing the flames. After an hour of intense effort, the fire was finally brought under control. Unfortunately, goods worth over Rs. 1 crore were destroyed in the blaze. While the exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined, it is suspected to have been triggered by a short circuit.
