Bhubaneswar: Acting on reliable intelligence input, the Airport Police Station conducted a raid in the Pokhariput area and apprehended five accused persons and seized illegal firearms and other incriminating materials. During the operation, police intercepted a suspicious vehicle and detained five individuals, including four interstate arms traffickers from Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, who were found in possession of illegal firearms. One local associate from Salepur, Cuttack was also apprehended, who was there to procure the firearms. The arrested persons have been identified as Prabin Kumar Singh (40), Raghvendra Singh (28), Abhishek Rajput (31), Indrajit Singh (38), and Sk. Sakil (28). Police also seized four 7.65mm semi automatic pistols, one six round revolver, one single shot, 18 rounds of live ammunition, a car bearing Reg. GJ-27-DM-5196 and five mobile phones from their possessions. According to police, Prabin Kumar Singh, a native of Ballia (U.P.), had been staying on rent at Jatani Gate area of Bhubaneswar for the past two months. He is a professional arms peddler, sourcing illegal firearms from other states. The three other interstate accused (Raghvendra Singh, Abhishek Rajput and Indrajit Singh) are his close associates involved in the arms trade network. Sk. Sakil, a resident of Salepur, was present to procure firearms from the gang when the police operation was launched. The criminal antecedents of the accused persons are being verified. Their network and possible supply routes into Odisha are under scrutiny.
