Bhubaneswar: Odisha is likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall and thunderstorm activity till August 28 under the influence of a fresh low pressure, which is likely to form over northwest Bay of Bengal off OdishaThe intensity of rain in the state is likely to increase from August 25, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Sunday.On August 24, heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places in Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh and Jharsuguda districts. Thunderstorm/lightning along with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph is also likely at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Puri, Khurda, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Jajpur and Dhenkanal.The IMD has issued an orange warning for Jagatsinghpur and Kendrapada districts on August 25, and Kandhamal, and Gajapati on August 26.Though intensity of rain may slightly decrease thereafter, yellow warning of heavy rainfall continues for another three days.On August 27, heavy rain along with thunderstorm/lighting and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places in Rayagada, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur and Koraput. Thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph is also likely at one or two places in Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Cuttack, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Malkangiri. Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Ganjam, Kandhamal, and Gajapati.On August 28, districts of Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda and Bargarh may witness heavy rain along with thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph. Thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph is also likely at one or two places in Rayagada, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Koraput, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Cuttack, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Malkangiri. Mayurbhanj, Ganjam, Kandhamal, and Gajapati.On August 29, heavy rain may continue at one or two places in Keonjhar, Sundargarh, and Jharsuguda districts.The weather agency has also warned of squally weather with wind speed reaching 35-45 kmph gusting to 55 kmph along & off North Odisha coasts and over North Bay of Bengal on August 24. The wind speed may increase to 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph along & off Odisha coasts and over North Bay of Bengal from August 26-28, it added.
