Husband sets wife on fire in Odisha’s Balasore district

Jaleswar: In a shocking incident of domestic violence, a husband allegedly poured petrol on his wife and set her ablaze at her parental home in Narayanpur village under Baliapal police limits in Balasore district of Odisha. The victim’s parents and brother sustained critical burn injuries while trying to rescue her.The victim, the daughter of Rajendra Samantaray of Narayanpur, had married to Karunakar Kabi of Malatri village seven years ago. The couple has two children.According to sources, marital discord had persisted since their marriage, and unable to bear the alleged torture, the woman had been staying at her father’s house for the past one month.On Tuesday night, the accused reached his in-laws’ house and reportedly created a ruckus. In a fit of rage, he allegedly poured petrol on his wife and set her on fire. Hearing her screams, locals rushed to the spot, nabbed the accused and handed him over to the police.All the injured were first admitted to the Pratappur Community Health Centre. As their condition deteriorated, they were later shifted to the Balasore District Headquarter Hospital for advanced treatment.Baliapal police detained the accused husband and launched an investigation in this regard.
