Bargarh: In a decisive action, the Bargarh district excise department successfully thwarted a significant cough syrup smuggling operation on Thursday morning. Responding to a credible tip-off, officials conducted a strategic raid on a pickup van at Ekamra Chhak, located on the outskirts of the town, seizing an impressive 5,400 bottles of cough syrup intended for illegal distribution as a narcotic substance. Two suspects, Jamidev Bag from Nuapada and Ashish Agrawal from Ekamra Chhak, were apprehended at the scene, and both the vehicle and a motorcycle involved in the operation were confiscated. This operation is a decisive blow to the burgeoning pharmaceutical smuggling network in western Odisha. Authorities are intensifying their investigations to uncover the extensive logistics behind this trafficking.
