Major Cough Syrup Smuggling Racket Dismantled in Bargarh

Bargarh: In a decisive action, the Bargarh district excise department successfully thwarted a significant cough syrup smuggling operation on Thursday morning. Responding to a credible tip-off, officials conducted a strategic raid on a pickup van at Ekamra Chhak, located on the outskirts of the town, seizing an impressive 5,400 bottles of cough syrup intended for illegal distribution as a narcotic substance. Two suspects, Jamidev Bag from Nuapada and Ashish Agrawal from Ekamra Chhak, were apprehended at the scene, and both the vehicle and a motorcycle involved in the operation were confiscated. This operation is a decisive blow to the burgeoning pharmaceutical smuggling network in western Odisha. Authorities are intensifying their investigations to uncover the extensive logistics behind this trafficking. The excise department emphasises its unwavering commitment to eradicating the illegal drug trade and safeguarding the community from the dangers of prescription medication misuse.
