Bhubaneswar: A massive fire broke out late last night at No. 1 Haat’s Plastic Market, gutting more than 40 shops and reducing property worth lakhs of rupees to ashes.The blaze, reported at 1:38 am via the 112 control room, spread rapidly through the densely packed market, causing extensive damage before it was brought under control.Fire services from Chandrashekharpur, Tamando, Pahal, Balipatna, and the Striking Force Unit were deployed immediately. Two units from Bhubaneswar Fire Station arrived at the scene by 1:39 am and began firefighting efforts.Seeing the intensity of the flames, additional support was called in from several nearby fire stations, including Sector FS, CSPUR FS, Balianta FS, and the State Fire Force Control Room.A total of 13 fire tenders, 70 firefighters, robotic monitors, foam, and a JCB were used in the operation. The fire was fully extinguished within an hour.Officials present during the operation included the Fire Officer of the Control Room and the Divisional Fire Officer of Bhubaneswar. Preliminary investigations suggest an electrical short circuit may have caused the fire, though the exact cause remains under investigation.No casualties have been reported so far. Authorities are assessing the extent of the damage.
