Malkangiri, AO correspondent 25/08 To prevent the acute shortage of urea and its black marketing, thousands of farmers from Malkangiri district Sikhpalli Panchayat and other 7 surrounding panchayats blocked National Highway No. 326 near Sikhpalki Chack under the leadership of District Navnirman Kishan Organization President Era Podiami. Thousands of farmers from Sikhpalli and 7 surrounding panchayats participated in this protest. The farmers complained that they were not getting urea on time and in sufficient quantity for their crops, due to which some traders along with government officials were doing black marketing. Due to this problem, they were facing a lot of difficulty in saving their crops, but the farmers alleged that the district administration was not paying attention to the farmers. In this regard, the Sikhpalli MD said that currently 600 bags of fertilizer are stored in the godown, all the fertilizer will be given to the farmers and the remaining farmers will be provided with fertilizer within two weeks. However, due to the protest that lasted for a few hours, the movement of vehicles on the road was completely stopped, due to which the commuters faced difficulties. Then the administrative officer and the Malkangiri police station officer and his team reached the spot and talked to the farmers and promised to fulfill their demands, after which the farmers came down from the road blockade. This incident shows that the availability of fertilizer is a big problem in the area, and it is directly affecting the livelihood of the farmers.
