Bhubaneswar: With a fresh low-pressure area shaping up over the Bay of Bengal, the intensity of rain is likely to further increase in many parts of Odisha after two days.According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a low-pressure area is likely to form northwest & adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal around August 13. A cyclonic circulation now exists over Bangladesh, West Bengal coast, and adjacent northwest Bay of Bengal, moving south-westward. This circulation is expected to contribute to the formation of the low-pressure area.Under its influence, heavy to very heavy rainfall and thunderstorm activity with lightning is likely to lash Odisha from August 12 to 14. The intensity of rain is predicted to be more intense in southern and northern parts of the state.During the next 24 hours, heavy rain and thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, and Gajapati.Similarly, thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Sundargarh, Keonjhar , Mayurbhanj, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur during the period. The IMD has issued a yellow warning for these districts.On August 12-13, the IMD has issued an orange warning of heavy to very heavy rain and thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph at one or two places over the districts of Kandhamal, Rayagada, Gajapati, and Koraput. Similarly, heavy rain and thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Ganjam, Nayagarh, Khurda, Puri, Mayurbhanj, and Keonjhar during the period. A yellow warning was issued for these districts.On August 13-14, heavy rain may become widespread and lash one or two places in Rayagada, Gajapati, Nabarangpur and Kalahandi and Kandhamal along with thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph.There is also a warning for thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj,Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada and Balangir.Squally weather may prevail with wind speed of 40-40 kmph gusting to 60 kmph along South Odisha coasts on August 12-13.People are advised to stay updated with the latest weather forecasts and take necessary precautions to ensure safety. The Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar has warned of thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds in several districts, and fishermen have been advised to exercise caution due to rough sea conditions
