Bhubaneswar: In order to ensure that none of the farmer’s token is lapsed, Odisha government extended the Kharif paddy procurement deadline by 7 days, informed Food and Supplies Minister Krushna Chandra Patra today.In a video message, the Minister said, “Our government has set an all-time record in the current Kharif season procurement. Till now, the state government has procured a record 77 lakh metric tonnes of paddy. As many as 18,64,418 farmers have successfully sold their paddy and a total of Rs 22,884 crore already transferred directly into their bank accounts.”“The state government has extended the Kharif paddy procurement deadline by 7 days to ensure that none of the farmer’s token is lapsed,” he added.It is to be noted here that the deadline for procurement of Kharif paddy concluded yesterday (March 31). However, hundreds of the farmers along with the opposition leaders had demanded the extension of the deadline citing that many farmers who have got tokens are yet to sell their produce.
