A Group D government employee was found dead under suspicious circumstances in Odisha’s jagatsinghpur district on Wednesday, triggering allegations of workplace harassment by senior officials. The deceased has been identified as Nihar Mahanti, a resident of Saharpur village in kendrapara district. His body was recovered from the office premises of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA). He was found hanging with a rope early in the morning and was rushed to a hospital in critical condition, where doctors declared him dead.Preliminary findings suggest suicide. However, the case has taken a serious turn after a video, purportedly recorded by the deceased before his death, surfaced in which he accused senior officials of harassing him at the workplace. His wife echoed the allegation, stating that sustained pressure and harassment by his superiors drove him to take the extreme step. She said Mahanti appeared normal on the morning of the incident and had spoken to her before leaving for work. Sources said the employee was also under financial strain due to borrowed money and was reportedly addicted to online gaming. Colleagues claimed he had been under prolonged work-related stress and had taken loans from multiple people. No official response has yet been received from the senior officials named in the allegations. Police have registered a case and launched an investigation to ascertain the exact circumstances surrounding the death.
