Puri: In an alleged case of ‘love jihad’, a distraught mother from odisha and puri district has appealed to the government to rescue her daughter who she claims is being held and tortured in bangladesh.The woman, identified as Anjali Parida, has claimed that her minor daughter was lured into a relationship through a mobile application and later taken across the border by a youth on the pretext of love.As per the complaint with Puri Police, a youth named Sabir befriended Anjali’s daughter through a mobile application by posing as a Bengali boy. He then trapped her in a relationship through deception and coercion.According to the allegations, the girl went missing on November 27, 2021, when she was just 16 years old. Following the disappearance, the family had filed a missing complaint. Later, they reportedly received information that the girl was in Cooch Behar in West Bengal. With the help of police, the mother reached the location to bring her daughter back. However, she alleged that the accused managed to escape as he was a relative of a police station official there. The mother further alleged that her daughter was subsequently taken from West Bengal to Bangladesh, where she is currently being kept. She claimed that the girl occasionally calls her and narrates incidents of torture. Anjali also alleged that her daughter is being pressured to convert to Islam. The last time she reportedly spoke to her daughter was on March 2, 2026.Meanwhile, the distressed mother has once again knocked on the doors of the Puri Superintendent of Police, urging authorities and the state government to take necessary diplomatic and legal measures to trace and rescue her daughter from Bangladesh.Seeking immediate government intervention, she has made an emotional appeal to the administration for swift action to ensure her daughter’s safe return home.
