Subarnapur, 7/3:Subarnapur police has taken strict action against ganja smugglers and especially against ganja transporters coming from neighboring Boudh and Kandhamal districts and passing through Subarnapur district. After receiving information from specific sources about the transportation of ganja by smugglers, a special team was formed and strict surveillance was maintained on the Manamunda -Sonepur road. Today i.e. 07/3/2026 (Saturday) between 03 and 05.05 am, the Sonepur police team identified and chased an Ertiga vehicle loaded with ganja being transported by ganja traders from Manamunda Boudh side. But the driver of the said vehicle and other criminals managed to escape from the vehicle loaded with ganja between Kunja Chowk and Nalini Chowk. Later, following the provisions of the NDPS Act, the said Ertiga vehicle bearing the number plate OD- 02 CN 3425 (fake) was checked and a total of 340 pockets of ganja (3.30 quintals in weight) were seized. In this regard, Sonepur PS Case No. 78, dated 07.03.2026 U/s-20(b)(ii) (C)/25/29 NDPS Act A case has been registered under NDPS Act and further investigation is underway. On the basis of such specific information, today i.e. 07.03.2026 (Saturday) between 04 and 06 am, Ulunda Police Team identified 02 four-wheelers being transported by drug peddlers from Manamunda Boudh side and chased the said vehicles. During chase, the driver of Tata Tigor vehicle bearing number plate OD- 30 B 7769 (fake) was arrested on Ulunda Sindol road while carrying ganja. Later, the said Tata Tigor vehicle was checked following the provisions of NDPS Act and a total of 279 pockets of ganja (2.76 quintals in weight) were seized. A case has been registered under the Ulunda Police Case No. 39/2026 NDPS Act in this regard and further investigation is underway.Apart from the above two incidents, another Maruti Dzire vehicle with number plate OD- 02 AG 3402 (fake) was seized on the Ulunda-Sindol road with the presence of ganja. Later, the said Maruti Dzire vehicle was checked following the provisions of the NDPS Act and a total of 291 packets of ganja (weighing 2.85 quintals) were seized. A case has been registered under the Ulunda Police Case No. 40/2026 NDPS Act in this regard and further investigation is underway. This was informed in a press conference held at the Subarnapur District Police Headquarters on Saturday.
