Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued yellow and orange warnings for several districts in Odisha, predicting thunderstorms, gusty winds, and hot and humid conditions over the next few days.As per the IMD prediction, March 7 is expected to see hot and humid conditions prevailing at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati.Besides, the IMD has warned of thunderstorms accompanied with lightning and gusty surface wind (wind speed reaching up to 30-40 kmph) likely to occur at isolated places over several districts, including Jharsuguda, Sundergarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Jajpur, Cuttack, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Khordha, and Puri on March 8.An orange warning has been issued for March 8, predicting that thunderstorms accompanied with lightning and gusty surface wind (wind speed reaching up to 40-50 kmph) are likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, and Sundargarh.Going by the IMD prediction for March 8, several other districts, including Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Kandhamal, and Kalahandi are likely to witness thunderstorms accompanied with lightning and gusty surface wind. These districts have been issued yellow alert.The IMD has also predicted thunderstorms accompanied with lightning and gusty surface wind (wind speed reaching up to 30-40 kmph) likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, and Jagatsinghpur on March 9.“Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning and gusty surface wind (wind speed reaching upto 30-40 kmph) is likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapada and Jagatsinghpur”, read IMD’s forecast for March 9.Residents of the affected districts are advised to be aware and take necessary precautions to stay safe during the thunderstorms and heat wave.
