Ahmedabad: At least 265 people lost their lives after an Air India aircraft crashed minutes after take-off from Ahmedabad on its way to London. Among the victims were two young flight attendants from Manipur, leaving their families shattered. The deceased crew members were 19-year-old Nganthoi Sharma and 21-year-old Lamnunthem Singson. The Boeing 787-8 aircraft was carrying 230 passengers, 10 cabin crew, and 2 pilots when the tragedy transpired. Nganthoi, from Thoubal district of Manipur, had joined Air India in April 2023 via campus placement at DM College of Commerce, Imphal. Just before the flight, she called her elder sister, saying she was heading to London and would return by June 15. Due to unstable network, the call was cut short and tragically, it turned out to be her final conversation. Her death has left her family heartbroken. Lamnunthem, the only daughter in her family, had joined Air India as cabin crew in 2024. She had told her mother she was heading to Ahmedabad for duty, her last words before the crash. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has visited the crash site, where forensic teams are carrying out investigations. The horrifying accident has left over 265 families in mourning, with Manipur especially grieving the loss of it’s two promising daughters in the Ahmedabad plane crash.
