World Autism Awareness Day Celebrated at KiiT International School

Bhubaneswar, 4th April: World Autism Awareness Day was observed today at KiiT International School – ‘SEN Globe’. Joining the program as the Chief Guest, Shri Nityananda Gond, Minister for School and Mass Education, ST & SC Development, Minorities & Backward Classes Welfare, and Social Security & Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, said that the initiative taken by KiiT International School SEN Globe for special students is highly appreciable.

He stated that Autism is not a disease but a condition. However, many inherent qualities remain hidden in such children. With proper cooperation and support from society, these qualities can be nurtured and brought to the forefront.

Shri Gond emphasized the need for greater public awareness in this regard. He also mentioned that the state government has undertaken several skill development programs for the growth and empowerment of such individuals. He further stated that every citizen should be aware of how persons with special needs can live with dignity in society and receive equal respect and rights.

Dr. Achyuta Samanta, Founder of KIIT & KISS, said, Time and patience are necessary for the development of every special child. Dr. Samanta thanked the staff and teachers of SEN Globe for their dedication in caring for the students. He added that the more time and patience given to these children, the better they will develop. The parents should be aware of this. Dr. Samanta also mentioned that since SEN Globe is working in collaboration with KiiT International School, the children are getting greater exposure.

The Chairperson of KIIT International School, Dr. Mona Lisa Bal, said that KiiT International School-SEN Globe has been managed with strong commitment for the last 12 years. She also informed that significant improvements have been observed in the mental condition of three special students. They are now pursuing their education with normal students. The program concluded with cultural performances presented by the students of SEN Globe.
