Puri: A 12-foot-long python weighing approximately 15 kg was rescued from the railway depot at Puri railway station in Odisha.Snake Helpline member Sangram Keshari Das rescued the python and subsequently handed it over to the Forest Department. However, the reptile’s presence at the railway depot has sparked suspicion, with allegations emerging that it may have been deliberately released there.According to Das, the same python had allegedly been rescued from Dhanikera village under Puri Sadar in September this year.He claimed that the reptile had earlier been rescued by Tapan Kumar Das, popularly known as Chapada Kalu, who reportedly died recently while making a reel with a cobra.Das alleged that Chapada Kalu had been taking the python to different villages, displaying it before people and recording social media reels. He further claimed that around 20 cobras, along with the python, had been kept at Chapada Kalu’s residence.Following Chapada Kalu’s death, another snake handler, identified as Kailash Parida, allegedly took possession of the python and cobras from the deceased’s house.According to the allegations, Parida had been using the snakes to create social media reels, including videos in which the reptiles were reportedly placed inside a well.Das has now raised suspicion that Parida might have released the python at the Puri railway depot on Tuesday night. However, the allegations have not been independently verified, and the circumstances under which the python reached the railway premises remain unclear.Meanwhile, Sangram Keshari Das has urged the Forest Department to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident and take appropriate legal action against anyone found responsible.
