Navjot Singh Sidhu’s resignation to be accepted

Chandigarh, 5/10: Punjab Congress state president Navjot Singh Sidhu’s resignation may be accepted and Ravneet Bittu can take over the responsibility of the new state president in his place. Sidhu had on September 28 resigned from the post of Congress’s Punjab unit president over differences over the appointment of “tainted” officers and ministers. The next day Sidhu publicly expressed his anger by releasing a video.

In fact, Iqbal Preet Singh Sahota, a senior IPS officer in the Charanjit Singh Channi government, has been given the additional charge of the Director General of Punjab Police. Angered by the charge being given to Sahota, Sidhu resigned from the post of Congress’s Punjab unit president. Sahota was the head of a special investigation team set up in 2015 by the then Akali government to probe the incidents of sacrilege of the Guru Granth Sahib in Faridkot.
