Chilika ,20/5:The Orissa High Court on Friday rejected the regular bail plea of Chilika MLA Prashant Jagadev, who is in an interim bail now on health ground. In the judgment, the High Court dismissed the regular bail plea and directed the MLA to surrender to the Banpur JMFC court on the 23rd of this month . Senior lawyer SS Pradhan on behalf of the government and senior lawyers Jayant Kumar Khandayataray and Saswati Mohapatra on behalf of the victims were handling the case while they strongly opposed the regular bail of the MLA. They argued that it was unreasonable for a legislator to go to the block at the time of Three-tier Panchayat election. In addition, despite the police ban, the legislator deliberately drove vehicle with fake number plate and targeted people and police. Since 1992, there have been 12 criminal cases against the MLA. So he is a habitual offender. The victim’s lawyer also cited the apex court’s ruling in two similar cases.”In judicial custody, MLA can seek for any medical check-up or treatment, and the Jail Authority can take appropriate steps in that regard” the ruling said. As the top court of the State has rejected his bail plea now it is for sure that he will be sent to jail once again.
