Cuttack: The Food Safety Department of Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) raided various food stalls in the Cuttack Bali Jatra area today. The food stalls were specifically checked for chemical colours, unhealthy environments, and low-quality oil.The offending shops were fined and warned not to repeat the offence. Additionally, stale food was destroyed. This raiding process will be conducted every day of the Bali Jatra, informed CMC Health Officer Satyabrat Mohapatra.“The food colours they are using are hepatotoxic and carcinogenic, which can cause injuries to the liver and intestine. We have also found some stale boiled potatoes stored in refrigerators. Our team is verifying the food safety licenses. Fines will be imposed on law violators. If necessary, their stalls may be sealed for violating food safety guidelines,” said Mohapatra.He informed that the crackdown would continue until the end of the fair. “Our team will also conduct raids at various stalls in the evening and throughout the day.”
