Bhavnagar: As many as eight lions have been saved from being killed in an accident in Gujarat’s Bhavnagar district due to the prompt action of train drivers. Two days back, the pilots of a freight train and a passenger train have saved the lives of eight lions roaming on the railway tracks by applying timely brakes in Gujarat’s Bhavnagar, an official said on Sunday.According to reports, the pilot of a goods train, which was running at full speed saw a pride of five lions crossing the railway tracks near Rajkula town. To save their lives, he applied emergency brakes. After the lions left the tracks, the train resumed its journey towards its destination. Similarly, on Friday, a passenger train passing through the Chhalala-Dhari section saw three lions on the tracks and immediately applied emergency brakes and stopped the train.Meanwhile, the Forest Department has praised the loco pilots operating the trains for their alertness while following the prescribed speed. With the alertness of the loco pilots of the Bhavnagar division of the Western Railway and the help of the forest department trackers, 104 lions have been rescued so far this year, said Bhavnagar, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Masook Ahmed.
