Kendrapara: A Plus II student of Pattamundai College in Kendrapara district allegedly died by suicide after being sexually harassed by an invigilator during the ongoing Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) examinations. The incident came to light on Saturday after the girl’s mother lodged a formal complaint at Pattamundai Rural Police Station. As per the complaint, the student was appearing for her exam on February 19 when the invigilator took her to a common room under the pretext of checking for malpractice. It is alleged that he touched her inappropriately and threatened her with consequences if she disclosed the matter. After finishing her exam, the girl told her mother about the incident. Her mother then informed the college authorities, but they said they would take action only after the exams were over. Sadly, on February 24, the student was found hanging at home. Her mother then filed a police complaint. Pattamundai IIC Dheeraj Lenka said they are checking CCTV footage as part of the investigation. Meanwhile, Pattamundai College Principal Dillip Kumar Bhuyan denied the allegations. “Such an incident did not occur on our college campus. Female students are checked only inside the ladies’ common room, not outside. On that day, four women lecturers and one female attendant were present, and no male staff entered the room,” Bhuyan said.
