Balrampur: In an act of courage and determination a woman in a remote village in Uttar Pradesh has refused to marry as the groom arrived drunk for the wedding. The incident has been reported from Basantpur village in Balrampur district. A woman allegedly called off her wedding as the groom allegedly reached the marriage venue drunk and was abusive in nature. It is worth mentioning here that, the groom arrived and there was a warm welcome and traditional rituals, however, the groom was badly intoxicated and displayed abusive behavior during the ‘varmala’ (garland exchange ceremony) preparations. This infuriated the woman and she refused to go ahead with the marriage. The situation led to a major heated debate. Later the local police was called upon and intervened. The relatives tried to convince the woman to get married but she remained firm, this lead to cancellation of the marriage and the man returned home without his bride.
