Two-Day International Conference Inaugurated at GIET University
Focus on the Role of Smart Materials in Sustainable Development
Gunupur:(Correspondent) :– A two-day international conference titled “SMART MATERIALS FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT–2025” was inaugurated today at GIET University, Gunupur. The event is jointly organized by the School of Engineering’s Department of Basic Sciences and Humanities and the School of Sciences.
Sponsored by the Anusandhan National Research Foundation and the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, the inaugural session featured Dr. Satyabhan Jena, retired professor of Utkal University, as the chief guest. In his keynote address, Dr. Jena discussed the emergence and diverse applications of smart materials and emphasized the growing need for advanced research in this field, especially with an eye on environmental conservation.
Dr. Dulu Pattnaik, Dean of the School of Engineering and Technology, shed light on departmental research achievements, while Dr. P. Bijaya Kumar, Controller of Examinations, highlighted innovation as a core element of scientific progress.
The welcome address was delivered by the conference convener, Dr. Jitendra Kumar Sahu, and Dr. B. Rabi Prasad from the School of Sciences spoke on the thematic importance of the conference. A commemorative conference souvenir was also unveiled by the dignitaries on this occasion.
Research scholars and postgraduate students of the university presented a variety of posters showcasing their research. The conference, held under the guidance of University Registrar Dr. N.V.J. Rao, witnessed participation from faculty members, researchers, and students.
Ms. Furti Fiza, Asst. Prof. hosted the proceedings of the inaugural session, while Ms. Ghanistha Prusti, asst. Prof. delivered the vote of thanks.
The conference includes virtual paper presentations from distinguished professors and researchers representing renowned institutions such as NIT Rourkela, University of Hyderabad, Utkal University, Saarland University (Germany), University of Douala (Cameroon), Dalhousie University (Canada), and academic voices from Nigeria, Israel, South Korea, and the USA.
The day concluded with a colorful cultural program performed by the students of GIET University, marking a vibrant close to the inaugural day.
