Baripada, April 27: At least four people were killed, one critically injured, and three others sustained injuries in two separate road accidents reported from Karanjia on Monday.In the first incident, a speeding Scorpio collided head-on with a motorcycle near the Grid at Baunashal on National Highway-220 around 11 AM. The Scorpio, which was coming from Jamshedpur in Jharkhand for darshan at Ghatgaon Tarini Temple, hit the motorcycle coming from the Karanjia side.The impact was severe, throwing the motorcycle off the road and badly damaging the front portion of the Scorpio. The motorcycle riders, identified as husband and wife Shankar Naik and Kabita Naik of Pantha village under Jashipur block, were critically injured. They were returning home after treatment at Karanjia Sub-Divisional Hospital. Police rushed them to the hospital, where doctors declared both dead.Two women traveling in the Scorpio sustained injuries and are undergoing treatment. The vehicles involved bear registration numbers JH-05-BAF-1258 (Scorpio) and OR-09-J-2798 (motorcycle).In another accident around 11:30 AM, a passenger bus collided with a car near Kadadiha Bhatisahi Chhak on State Highway-53 under Karanjia block. The Prashanti bus, en route from Karanjia to Udala, crashed into an oncoming car (OD-04-J-0022).Following the collision, police and rescue teams reached the spot and shifted the injured to Karanjia Sub-Divisional Hospital. Two persons traveling in the car died, while one was critically injured and another sustained injuries. All four occupants of the car were reportedly from Jajpur district.The deceased have been identified as Nilamani Sahu and Mabu Bal. The critically injured, Pradeep Kumar Bal Samanta of Dharmasala, has been shifted to Keonjhar District Headquarters Hospital, while another injured person, Palu Bal, is under treatment.The car occupants were reportedly heading towards Rairangpur while returning from Bhubaneswar. State Minister Ganesh Ram Singh Khuntia visited the accident site and reviewed the situation. Bus passengers were reported safe.
