Baripada, September 27:A 5-km “Odisha Promo Run” was organised in Baripada on the occasion of World Tourism Day to promote Odisha’s tourist destinations, create public awareness about tourism, and spread the message of a healthy lifestyle. Mayurbhanj Collector Hemant Say flagged off the run at Jubilee Library as the chief guest. Around 200 runners participated in the event.
Speaking on the occasion, Collector Say said that Mayurbhanj is rich in natural resources, biodiversity, heritage and cultural diversity. He said that such events can help showcase the tourism potential of the district and Odisha to a wider audience while promoting awareness about fitness and a healthy lifestyle. He also stressed the need for public awareness regarding the protection of the environment and heritage of tourist destinations along with their promotion.
The promo run, organised with the message of making tourism more people-oriented, started from Jubilee Library and passed through Baleswar Golei, Jagannath Temple, Bada Bazaar, Maa Ambika Temple, Biju Patnaik Square and Banthia Jagannath Temple before concluding at Jubilee Library.
The event was organised under the direct supervision of District Sports Officer Dr. Subhashish Nayak. District Information and Public Relations Officer Shishir Kumar Munduya was also present. Officials and staff of the District Sports Department and Tourism Department worked in coordination to ensure the smooth conduct of the programme.
