Subarnapur, 30/7—- Subarnapur District Excise Mobile Unit and Birmaharajpur Excise Police Station conducted raids at Ulunda Police Station S. Patrapali and Birmaharajpur Police Station Raksa Chhak on Tuesday to prevent ganja smuggling. 4 people have been arrested in two separate cases. In both the incidents, 5 quintals of ganja, one pickup van and one car were seized. The accused were produced in court on Wednesday. The market value of the seized ganja is estimated to be around Rs. 5 crore, said Subarnapur Excise Superintendent Prabir Kumar Samal.
A white unregistered pickup van coming from Ulunda was stopped and impounded at S. Patrapali Chhak on suspicion by the District Mobile Unit of the Excise Department. There were 12 to 15 bags of dried chillies on the van. Inside, 20 bags of ganja were found. After weighing, 4 quintals of ganja were seized from the van. In this incident, Chakrapani Patra (48) of Kashalpur area of Subalaya police station and Ajit Karmi (21) of Guja area of Ulunda police station have been arrested. In this regard, a case has been registered under NDPS Act No. 133/26 by the Subarnapur District Mobile Unit of the Excise Department. According to initial investigation, the said ganja was being transported from Boudh district to Sambalpur via Birmaharajpur road. Similarly, Birmaharajpur Excise Police Station stopped a white car without a number plate coming from Birmaharajpur at Raksa Chhak. One quintal of ganja has been seized from the car. In this incident, Sanjib Bhukta (27) of Bardakata of Subalaya Police Station Pitamhul Village and Sudeep Karmi (19) of Pitamahul Village have been arrested. In this regard, a case under the NDPS Act has been registered at Birmaharajpur Excise Police Station No. 76/26 and investigation is underway. Excise District Mobile Unit Govind Naik, SI Shantanu Kumar Patnaik, Birmaharajpur Excise Police Station OIC Ramachandra Patnaik, ASI Debendra Bariha, Constable Namita Badi, Bhagyaban Kumbhar, Akash Sahu were involved in the raid.
