Former ASI of Jenapur Police Station convicted in bribery case and sent to jail

Kataka: In a significant anti-corruption development, Odisha Vigilance has secured the conviction of one ex-ASI of Police of Jenapur Police Station in Jajpur district, who is at present posed as ASI of Police, Athagada Police Station in Kataka district in a bribery case.Amiya Kumar Behera, the ex-ASI of Police of Jenapur Police Station was charge sheeted by Odisha Vigilance in a case U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d)/7 PC Act,1988 for demanding and taking bribe from a complainant to compromise an miscellaneous allegation made against him in the said Police Station.However, the Special Judge, Vigilance, Kataka convicted him today and sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of four years and fine.Further, Amiya Kumar Behera was sent to jail custody to serve his sentence.Odisha Vigilance will now move the competent authority for dismissal of Behera from service following his conviction.
