The Hirakud Dam authorities have opened 13 sluice gates to release excess floodwater into the Mahanadi River system.Of these, nine gates on the left spillway and four on the right are currently discharging water.According to officials, the reservoir’s water level stands at 618.71 feet. The dam is receiving an inflow of 90,731 cusecs, while the outflow has reached 2,38,508 cusecs.Authorities emphasised that the discharge is being carefully regulated based on inflow and downstream conditions. The situation is under close watch, with flood management protocols in place to balance reservoir safety and river flow.
