Khordha: A woman was killed while five others including four school students were critically injured due to lightning strike in separate places of Khordha district on Monday.The deceased woman has been identified as K. Janaki of Mathura village in Khallikote area of Ganjam district.According to reports, a group of women from Ganjam district including Janaki had gone to Dikhitpada area in Khordha district for paddy plantation. However, heavy rainfall accompanied with strong lightnings occurred in the area while the women were working on the paddy field.Unfortunately, Janaki and another woman were struck by a lightning which left Janaki dead on the spot and the other woman critical.Meanwhile, police seized Janaki’s body for postmortem while the injured person was rushed to the Tangi Community Health Centre (CHC) for treatment.In another such incident, lightning struck the Government Primary School at Laxmidharpur village in Kuhudi Grama Panchayat (GP) of the district which left four students, three boys and one girl, injured.Soon, the school authorities informed the parents of students and rushed them to the Tangi CHC for treatment.
