Mayurbhanj: Amid incessant rainfall across several parts of Odisha, a car was swept away by floodwater near Naharpada village under Udala police limits in Mayurbhanj district.
A teacher of Naharpada School and his driver were travelling towards Naharpada village when they encountered waterlogging on the road. Initially, the water level appeared low, but it suddenly rose while the car was crossing the stretch. Due to the strong current, the car was swept away and carried nearly 15–20 metres.
Sensing danger, the driver opened all the car windows. As the water level continued to rise, the teacher got out of the vehicle and swam to safety. He then reached the village and informed the locals about the incident, requesting them to rescue the driver and recover the car.
Around 15–20 villagers rushed to the spot and successfully rescued the driver. They later pulled the car out of the floodwater. The vehicle remained trapped in the floodwater for nearly two hours.
According to the villagers, when they reached the spot, the car was almost submerged up to the neck level in water. Fortunately, a major mishap was averted.
